Ella’s grandpa’s house was super cozy. It had creaky wooden floors, a comfy sofa, and fireplace that made it feel warm. The walls were full of family photos, and the kitchen smelled like cookies. There was a porch with rocking chairs where grandpa liked to sit. It was a safe and loving place for Ella.

Ella had a long figure with light brown hair and hazel eyes which gleamed gold under the sunset of that evening. Her grandpa usually sat on the porch after finishing up his dinner, so she decided to join him just to see what he does all that time. Read a book with the cool air blowing towards him? Sit and tinker with his sharp scraps of metal? Write a long letter of good wishes to friends? Though they all seemed to be reasonable things that her grandpa could do, but he did something his granddaughter thought possible for a man like him - he sat and stared into the distance as if waiting for something. She wondered what he was thinking at that moment. After a few minutes of silence, she was brought from her thoughts by her grandpa saying, ‘Okay that’s enough for today miha. Go fix up the attic for me, there’s a good girl.’

‘Si Tito,’ she answered.

As she walked up the creaking wooden steps carefully so she wouldn’t fall; when she reached the top, she fumbled around in the dark in search of the light switch. When she found it, she discovered that one - the entire attic was dustier than most haunted manors, and two - the attic was really messy by the time she had made it halfway through the mess of unsorted boxes.

The moon was already high up in the sky, so with her great estimation skills and her watch, she saw that she had about two hours. ‘Great,’ she thought sarcastically, ‘Only two more hours until I finish the rest.’ As she was almost finished with half of the pile, she noticed a box with golden lights exiting in little tendrils of gold. As she got closer to the box, the light became stronger almost blinding her. Suddenly her grandpa called, ‘Miha, time for bed. You can finish tomorrow!’

‘Ok,’ she answered, ‘Coming Tito.’

She sat on her bed almost fainting from sleepiness when finally, her eyes closed leading her to sleep. In her dreams she was falling from a building. She felt the strong winds pushing against her ear. Drums almost deafening her. When she landed, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. It hadn’t hurt when she landed, in fact she didn’t feel a thing. She got up and started walking around.

The land was beautiful, full of life and delicious looking foods that were laid on the ground with picnic blankets underneath. She was looking at the different types of plants, when she heard a series of deep bellows and growls that reverberated through the thick jungle; it echoed around her making her heart drop to her stomach. She made a run for it, even if she didn’t know what it was. However, she knew that anything that made such sounds was not a friend.

After running for what seemed like a long time she found a cave. In it was a warm bright fire and near it were her…parents! She ran towards them with tears in her eyes…Then she woke in a haze of emotions, fear for her parents; she felt like the world had been ripped from underneath her feet. She was drenched in sweat and sobbing in despair.

People often say that one does not think properly in times of despair, and Ella proved that saying to be true. In a span of two minutes, she had gone up to the attic and opened the glittering box, she knew it had something to do with her dream.

But what?
